As Muslims, we all claim to love the Prophet ﷺ, but how much do we really know about him? How much do we know about his blessed family? How much do we know about his beloved companions?
In a day and age where we are constantly bombarded with TV, sports, and entertainment, it is easy to be taken by the flashing lights of popular culture. As Muslims, however, we must remember that our role model must first and foremost be the Prophet ﷺ. We will never learn to follow him until we learn to love him. How will we learn to love him if we don’t know him?
Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet ﷺ used to deliver his sermons while standing beside a trunk of a date palm. When he had the pulpit made, he used it instead. The trunk started crying and the Prophet ﷺ went to it, rubbing his hand over it (to stop its crying). We see in this story that a piece of wood loved the Prophet ﷺ so much that when he left, it cried so hard that the masjid shook. Where is our love?
